![]() ![]() ![]() In carbonates rocks, the textural properties of the pore network (e.g., pores size distribution, pores shape, pores connectivity and tortuosity), and therefore the porosity and permeability, are highly variable due to primary depositional conditions, diagenesis processes and deformation. The reason is that the literature on this technology is already huge, and educational texts can be readily found elsewhere in the published literature The informed reader may ask why a major analytical method like the β-delayed neutron activation analysis or NAA has not been treated in similar detail. The text concentrates mainly on description of the principles of the PGNAA method since this method is central in many of the described applications. Other application examples to illustrate the usefulness of nuclear methods in these areas might have been added but would probably not have added substantially to the main objective of the text.Īdditionally, basic technical information on neutron-induced elemental analysis, not provided in (Bjørnstad, 2020a), has been placed here for practical reasons. The information provided in this chapter on neutron radiation induced methods for material testing and analysis comprises a few selected applications in civil engineering, industry and science. ![]()
